Command, Kin, & Legacy
Certain figures appear again and again across decks, archetypes that defy confinement. In both the Rune deck and The Sabbath Oracle, one such figure rides the winds: the Hexer. This character becomes a visual thread that weaves Rune, Oracle, and personal mythology into one fabric.
Raido (The Runes)

The Rune of Raido signifies purposeful journey and mastery of movement through both inner and outer realms. In the Rune deck, this figure appears astride his broom, a timeless image of the witch’s flight, now rendered in masculine form. His body is poised, muscular, grounded in strength, yet riding the winds.
Here, the Hexer is becoming caught between earth and sky. He is the embodiment of Raido’s essence: not simply moving through the world, but directing the flow of his path with deliberate force. The visual language is one of restrained power, the body ready, the broom a vehicle of intent.
Hexer (The Oracle)

When this same figure emerges as Card VI in The Sabbath Oracle, the Hexer, he has crossed a threshold. No longer a rider alone, he is a commander of the elements. In this image, lightning arcs around him, responding to his outstretched arm. His posture now speaks of authority and direction, he points the way, shaping reality with the force of will.
Across decks, we witness an evolution: from journeyer (Raido) to Hexer, the figure gains command not only of his own movement, but of the forces that surround him. This portrayal anchors the Hexer archetype as one of sovereign magical power, where body, tool, and element move as one.
Othala (The Runes)

The third glimpse of this figure returns us to the Rune deck, now beneath the sign of Othala, the rune of ancestral land, inheritance, and protection.
Here, the Hexer is seen from afar, riding high above a solitary homestead. The storm churns behind him, lightning still at his call. Yet the context has shifted: this is not the raw exercise of power, but it’s channeling in defense of what is sacred. Othala reminds us that all mastery must ultimately serve home, kin, and legacy.
In this image, the Hexer is the watchful guardian, the same man who once rode seeking, then commanded the storm, now wielding that force in protection of his domain.
